Wayne County Sheriff's Office Detectives Eric Pierce and James Cornell escort Terrence Smith, 23, of LaGrange, to a car from the annex Tuesday night to take him to the magistrate's office. Smith is the third suspect charged in the murder of Carl Patrick Henry Leroy Jr.

A third suspect was arrested on murder charges Tuesday night in connection with the shooting death of a Seven Springs teenager.

Terrence Corainte Smith, 23, of 3960 County Line Road, LaGrange, was arrested at 1716B Harrell St. without incident, according to Wayne County Sheriff's Office statement.

Smith faces charges in what police say is the shooting death of 17-year-old Carl Patrick Henry Leroy Jr.

Smith was booked in the Wayne County Detention Center on charges of murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property resulting in serious bodily injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and felony conspiracy. He was jailed on a $340,000 secured bond.

On Aug. 22, Devon McCollum, 24, of 210 W. Green St., Snow Hill, and Videll Alexander Wright, 19, of 104 Sedgefield Drive, were also arrested on charges of one count of open murder, felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony discharging a weapon into occupied property, felony conspiracy to commit robbery, discharging a firearm into occupied property and murder.

Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce said the case remains under investigation.

"From the beginning, this case was a collaborative effort of several divisions within the sheriff's office, Goldsboro police and the (State Bureau of Investigation), as well as good information from citizen involvement," Pierce said. "The investigation is continuing at this time."

The Wayne County Communications Center received a 911 call around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 asking for assistance following the shooting. Deputies and EMS personnel were dispatched to the area of 332 Sanders Road, in Seven Springs, where they found Leroy suffering from a gunshot wound.

Leroy was pronounced dead at the scene.
