MOUNT OLIVE -- Residents in an area just south of town have been evacuated as multiple fire departments, including ones from northern Wayne County, have responded to an alarm at a grain mill.

The alarm is at Southeastern Grain Co., 770 U.S. 117 Alternate in Duplin County just south of the town limits.

The evacuation was because of nearby propane tanks.

Few details are available, but tankers from as far away as Nahunta, Patetown and Elroy have been activated to set up a series of fast-dump water tanks near Broadhurst Road.

Mount Olive police are on scene to direct traffic.

At about 1:45 p.m., the Calypso Volunteer Fire Department issued an evacuation notice to businesses and residents within one mile of the Southeastern Grain feed mill due to a gas leak. The department plans lift the evacuation after the area is considered safe.
