Home Health and Hospice Care is one of two companies that have filed competing certificate of need applications to develop a hospice home care agency office in Cumberland County.
The other application is from Well Care Hospice of the Eastern Carolinas in Wilmington.
A public hearing for the projects will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, in the meeting room of the Cliffdale Regional Branch Library, 6882 Cliffdale Road, Fayetteville.
The Home Health and Hospice Care project is expected to cost $53,000 and would be completed in October 2019.
The Well Care Hospice of the Eastern Carolinas in Wilmington project is expected to cost $75,000 and also would be completed in October 2019.
State law prohibits health care providers from "acquiring, replacing, or adding to their facilities and equipment, except in specified circumstances, without the prior approval of the Department of Health and Human Services."
Prior approval is also required before certain medical services can begin.
The intent of a certificate of need is to restrict "unnecessary increases in health care costs and limits unnecessary health services and facilities based on geographic, demographic and economic considerations."
Both applications have been filed with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
