Expo to offer shopping, screenings

The Wayne WOMAN Magazine Expo will offer live cooking demonstrations, interactive booths, boutiques, home decor information and much more.
Visitors can shop and also pamper and treat themselves at the event.
It will take place May 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Maxwell Center.
"Wayne WOMAN Expo hopes to bring together the very best in shopping, beauty, health and wellness, nutrition, healthy foods, fitness, home decor, home and garden available in and around Wayne County," said Kena Blain, associate publisher for Wayne WOMAN magazine.
"We hope that women take away from this expo a relaxing day of shopping, fun and getting to know businesses -- big and small -- in Wayne County, along with some educational tips on health care for themselves and their families."
The first 50 women who registered for the women's health discussion at 8:30 a.m. are going to receive a continental breakfast at 8 a.m., discussion at 8:30 a.m. and swag bags before going in to shop 30 minutes early.
Melissa Smith, FNP-C, with UNC Family Medicine at Pikeville and Regina Gurley, PA-C, with UNC Psychiatry at Goldsboro will talk about women's health and the effects of stress.
Wayne UNC will have several booths that will provide attendees an opportunity to learn about the importance of taking care of themselves. There will also be free health screenings by Wayne UNC nurses.
For all other attendees, doors will open at 10 a.m.
One vendor at the expo will be Wayne UNC Health Care, partnering with Wayne Woman magazine to host the event.
"The event is designed to give women an opportunity to learn about topics ranging from fashion trends to healthy living," said Melissa Shay, vice present of strategy and business development with Wayne UNC Health Care.
Wayne UNC will have several booths that will provide attendees an opportunity to learn about the importance of taking care of themselves. There will also be free health screenings by Wayne UNC nurses.
"By helping women understand their numbers, we hope to encourage and support them in their efforts toward a healthy lifestyle," Shay said.
"This may include changes in diet, starting an exercise routine or scheduling annual visits and screenings with their primary care physician."
Tickets are $8 at the door. Children 3 and younger are admitted for free; children between the ages of 3 and 5 will be admitted for $2; and the ticket cost for children 6 years and older is $8.
