Wayne Country Day preps for upcoming final exams

We are on the academic homestretch here at Wayne Country Day School with final exams -- AP and others -- coming into focus on the horizon. Also, class schedules and advisor selection sheets for the 2018-19 school year are due this week, so it's time to make those important decisions. However, there is much more going on at our school than grades in history, math, science and language.
American Red Cross Club is proud to sponsor our next blood drive with the American Red Cross on Friday, April 20, from 1:30 to 6 p.m. An estimated 38 percent of Americans are eligible to give blood but of those, less than 10 percent actually donate each year. If you are healthy and eligible, please come out to donate. Most donations take about an hour, so book your appointment, roll up your sleeve and become a part of the life-saving mission of the Red Cross. If you are unsure of your eligibility, a quick check online can help. And if you find that you are ineligible to donate blood or are too needle-phobic to do so, we would love to have you as a volunteer at our drive. In other club news, Wayne Country Day's Key Club helped spread happiness two weekends ago by performing small acts of kindness around Goldsboro. Some of their helpful deeds included placing free bags of popcorn on Redbox movie dispensers, leaving quarters at gumball machines and donating detergent to local laundromats. On Saturday, members of the club volunteered to help officiate the Greater Goldsboro Road Run (in which a WCDS student, Connor Bauer, grabbed first place as a 10K runner).
Diversity Club is celebrating Autism Awareness Month by spreading facts and knowledge about Autism Spectrum Disorder. They are hoping to attend a run in Wilmington on April 28. It's so pleasing to know that our students are active in the community.
When it comes to sports, Wayne Country Day is largely unparalleled among other schools our size. This past week was particularly thrilling with wins across the board. Tennis, soccer, and baseball all proved victorious in matches on Tuesday, with tennis edging out the Burlington School, soccer slaughtering John Paul II, and baseball subduing Wayne Christian. Two days later, each sport brought it home again by defeating Greenfield, Ridgecroft and New Life Christian, respectively. Finalists for the National Merit Scholarship have been announced, with four students from Wayne Country Day's junior class being recognized: Langley Barnes, Jacob Bauer, Charlie Dees and Sam Dively. To the friends, teachers and family who know them, this comes as no surprise, but we are all excited to see how this honor will affect their futures. Congratulations!

Finally, with the ending of another school year comes Student Government elections. WCDS recognizes the bravery of all students who run for office, no matter what the results. Again, we are looking forward to what the future holds.
