Gardening workshop slated for April 24

A workshop on growing vegetables and herbs will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Wayne County Extension office in the Maxwell Center, 3114 Wayne Memorial Drive.

It is the latest in a series of Extension Service Gardening in Wayne County workshops designed to help beginner and advance home gardeners learn the basics of gardening and landscaping.

The cost is $5 per workshop.

Pre-registration is not required, just arrive a few minutes early to pay at workshop. Cash or check (payable to County of Wayne) will be accepted.

All fees are non-refundable and checks are subject to a $25 insufficient fund fee.

Workshops are presented by Jessica Strickland, Wayne County Extension horticulture agent, and consist of presentation, handouts, questions and answers and hands-on learning.

The remaining workshops this year are:

* May 15, lawn care basics.

* June 5, growing flowers, perennials and annuals.

* August 28, plant propagation basics.

* September 11, soil testing to improve your soil.

* October 9, woody ornamentals, trees and shrubs.

* November 8, understanding soil reports, fertilizers and pest management.
