Wayne Community College President Dr. Thomas Walker will talk about the expansion and centralization of the college's Advanced Manufacturing Center during today's Wayne County commissioners meeting.

The master plan and concept drawings for the center have been completed by Boomerang Design, including some preliminary planning for the welding phase of the project.

The center will house manufacturing training equipment currently at WCC.

It will be used to train new and existing workers while attracting business and industry to the area.

The meeting will get underway with an 8 a.m. agenda briefing followed by the formal session at 9 a.m. Both will be held in the commissioners' meeting room on the fourth floor of the Wayne County Courthouse Annex.

Two other presentations are on the agenda.

James Wade, venue director/operations manager for the Maxwell Center, will give an update on the center.

The Maxwell Center has hosted several events since its March 1 opening including last Thursday's fifth annual Friends of Seymour Johnson AFB gala.

Cooperative Extension Director Kevin Johnson will update the board on the progress of the new farmers market.

Approximately 30 people attended a vendors held meeting held last Thursday.

The market building, located behind the Maxwell Center, is now under construction.

An opening date has not been finalized, but Johnson has said he hopes that it opens by mid-May.
