Council to talk naming rights

The Goldsboro City Council is set to consider naming rights for the newly opened Goldsboro Multisports Complex on Oak Forest Road.
The council will meet at 7 p.m. today in City Hall, at 214 N. Center St.
The council will vote on a resolution to name the new sports complex the Bryan Multi-Sports Complex, following the commitment of the R.A. Bryan Foundation, a local nonprofit, charitable organization, to contribute $300,000 to the complex during the next 10 years.
The naming rights continue 15 years at the complex, at 510 S. Oak Forest Road, where a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned on April 23.
The council will also revisit a rezoning request tonight that could lead to the addition of a new car wash on North Berkeley Boulevard near the Berkeley Mall. Berkeley Realty Holdings is requesting the rezoning of 0.85 acres on Berkeley Boulevard, at Langston Drive, that would allow the addition of a car wash as an allowable use in the general business conditional district.
The company is interested in adding a 3,500-square-foot car wash, directly across from the mall. The council tabled the rezoning, during its April 2 meeting, due to concerns about the proximity of the business to residential areas along Langston Drive.
The council is set to vote on the request during the meeting.
In other business, the council will consider a contract change order, adding $56,775 to an earlier $48,222 contract with Three Deuces to remove vegetative debris from additional sections of Stoney Creek and the Little River.
The project is being paid for with a $105,355 grant awarded to the city by the N.C. Department of Agriculture for Hurricane Matthew cleanup.
The council will also consider:
* Approving an additional $23,021 cost for a variety of improvements to the former W.A. Foster Center, on Leslie Street, which is being renovated by Billy Brock Construction under a $118,390 contract. The full cost of renovations, including design services, asbestos removal and renovations, has cost nearly $180,000, with $200,000 budgeted for the project.
* Approving a $2.3 million installment financing agreement with Banc of America Public Capital Corp. for the purchase of 35 vehicles, including $194,000 for eight 2018 Dodge Chargers and $134,000 for four 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles, along with $226,000 in equipment, for the police department; a $210,000 Caterpillar Wheel Loader; a $425,000 Vactor Comb Truck; $127,000 Caterpillar Excavator; and a $147,000 limb loader grappler truck.
The vehicles were previously approved by the council for purchase as part of the 2017-18 city budget. The 58-month financing agreement includes an interest rate of about 2.8 percent.
* Approving a $50,000 contract with the Wooten Co. for engineering services for future water and wastewater system improvements.
The council will meet at 5 p.m. in the City Hall annex, at 200 N. Center St., for a work session prior to the regular 7 p.m. meeting.
