The Goldsboro City Council decided earlier this month to table a decision on a rezoning request that would have led to the addition of a 3,500-square-foot car wash on North Berkeley Boulevard, at Langston Drive and across from Berkeley Mall.
Mayor Chuck Allen said Tuesday that members of the council wanted more time to review the request and the possible effects along one of the city's busiest thoroughfares and Langston Drive.
"I think the concern you have to (consider is) the stacking of cars on Langston Drive," Allen said. "It's still a residential area back there.
"I think they wanted more time to think about it and to do some more research on it."
Berkeley Realty Holdings is seeking the rezoning to add the car wash as an allowable use on a 0.85-acre property, where two houses are located, in the general business conditional district.
The council will consider the rezoning during its April 16 meeting, Allen said.
In March 2017, the properties were part of a larger rezoning request for 1.7 acres on Berkeley Boulevard, between Ridgecrest Drive and Langston Drive.
Council approved the rezoning from residential and office-residence districts to a general business conditional district, with property development restricted to the addition of a 13,708-square-foot multi-tenant building. At the time, the request was made by the Hutton Team.
In other business, the council:
* Approved the sale of 1.7 acres on Central Heights Road, near Thoroughfare Road, to Barnew Media for $17,600, with the city and county receiving $8,800 each.
* Appointed members to its boards and commissions.
* Rescheduled its June 18 meeting to June 25.
* Rezoned a 0.46-acre property on Graves Drive, near Berkeley Boulevard, from a shopping center to a general business zone.
