PRINCETON -- Princeton police are investigating the shooting death of a South Carolina man who was wearing body armor during a visit in the Johnston County town Monday.

Michael Lorenzo Joyner, 34, of Columbia, South Carolina, was shot in the head in the 300 block of South Elm Street on Monday evening. Police arrived in the area just before 4 p.m. and found the victim face down in the road wearing body armor.

Princeton Police Chief Tyrone Sutton said an argument took place earlier in the day with Joyner's brother and three other individuals.

Joyner, who previously served in the military, reportedly drove three hours from South Carolina to check on his brother, police said, based on details provided by Joyner's family.

After arriving, the conflict continued and shots were fired.

The identity of Joyner's brother and others involved in the fight were not disclosed by police.

No arrests have been made following the fatal shooting, Sutton said.

Police have persons of interest and continue to investigate the incident, he said.

The deadly shooting is Princeton's first homicide of the year. The town's last homicide took place in 2015, Sutton said.

Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to contact Princeton police at 919-936-1125.
