Southern Wayne High School feels like it is their turn to give back to their community.

Several clubs have decided to make this their mission for the school year.

One of the many clubs at Southern Wayne is NTHS, or the National Technical Honor Society.

As a group, they have decided to take part in the WATCH Health Program. Many people are not familiar with this program. It stands for Wayne Action Teams for Community Health. To help out, the club members, as well as the Club Advisor, Mrs. Kimberly Whitfield, collected boxes of everyday necessities such as Kleenex, hand sanitizer, cotton balls, pens and medical cups to give to those in need. They successfully collected more than 19 boxes filled with these items.

Another popular club is FTA, or Future Teachers of America. The club advisor is Mrs. Kelly Wiggs, she is really proud of her members.

For their service project, they wanted to be a part of a Paw-N-Hand. This consisted of donations for local animal shelters. The club thought this would be a great way to give back. The club members gathered together in October to get started. Many of the club members brought money, dog and cat food, cat litter, pee pads, treats and toys. Everyone enjoyed this project so much that they want to go to these shelters and volunteer with the animals. They ended up raising more than $300 worth of supplies. What a great way to give back.

The Math Club is also in the "giving spirit." Mrs. Elvia Mejia is in charge of Math Club and all their endeavors. For their service project, they decided to feed the poor with canned goods. As a club, they were required to bring three cans per student. There are a total of 40 students. The club members were so happy to help, that they brought four or five cans.

They got this idea from the school social worker, Mrs. Heather Bradshaw, who sent an email about it. It was so successful that the club wants to make it their yearly project.

The students and faculty love helping their communities in so many different ways.

Thank you Southern Wayne Clubs for giving back.
