Local business owner Kayla Howard is extending a helping hand to girls in Wayne County who want to go to prom but may not have the resources.

Through her business, Fancii Beauty Express located at 200 W. Ash St. Suite 108, she will provide two selected Wayne County students with the full prom preparation experience through her program "Prom Promise."

For a Wayne County senior to qualify to participate in "Prom Promise," they must submit a 300-word essay about who they are, their plans after graduation and what the prom experience would mean to them.

"I really want to touch bases a little bit about them, their likes, needs, wants and their dreams and what this experience will do for them as far as self-esteem," Howard said.

Howard said girls may suffer a lack of confidence or low self-esteem who come from a low-income family or a family who has hit economic hardship because they cannot afford the newest clothing trends, hair-dos or a even a chance to go to prom.

Working with area businesses, Howard hopes to ease some of that hardship for the two girls selected for "Prom Promise."

The girls selected will get the full prom treatment as Howard is collaborating with other area businesses for the project.

Hair services and accessories will be provided by SB Nail Experience and Beauty and make-up will be provided by Poised by Pearl.

Howard said the full expense of those services will be footed by Fancii Beauty Express with the collaboration offering an opportunity for the small businesses to get involved.

"I was trying to do a collaboration with local small business in the community," Howard said.

For the "Prom Promise," 30 percent of the cost of the dress will also be supplied by Fancii Beauty Express as well as the full price of a dinner on prom night.

Howard said the girls are free to choose the dress they wish and the place they want to eat dinner.

All essays must be sent to fanciiboutique10@gmail.com by April 10.
