All-county band festival steps off this evening

Wayne County Public Schools will hold its 2018 All-County Band Festival today at 6 p.m. at Dillard Middle School.
One hundred band members from the district will participate in the showcase. Professionals will direct the students representing 13 middle and high schools.
The event is free and open to the public.
The middle school director will be Dr. William Staub, associate director of bands and director of the East Carolina University Marching Pirates.
The high school director will be Tony Robinson, instrumental director for the Franklin Academy Charter High School, located in Wake Forest.
Band directors have been working for weeks preparing students for the event. Those include Michael Palmer of Charles B. Aycock High, Dawnee Tate of Dillard Middle, Bobby Sherard of Eastern Wayne High, Daryl Richardson of Eastern Wayne Middle, Tyler Tharrington of Grantham Middle, Jennifer Kirkland of Greenwood Middle, Anna Jarrett of Norwayne Middle, Melissa Riser of Rosewood middle and high, Cindy Grant of Southern Wayne High, Olivia Willie of Spring Creek Middle and Daniel Kilgore of Spring Creek High.
Musical selections for this year include: Ancient Voices, A Prehistoric Suite, More Cowbell, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lullaby, Sweet Like That and The Fairest of the Fair.
Justin Bruyer, assistant principal at Rosewood High, will serve as the event's master of ceremonies.
