Goldsboro police are investigating a report of a man impersonating a police officer in the city.

A 16-year-old girl reported the incident, which took place Monday night along the 900 block of South George Street at 9 p.m., according to police reports.

The teenager was driving north on George Street when a dark-colored car flashed blue and red lights. After stopping, the teenager was approached by a black male, who asked her to step out of the car.

The teenager remained inside her vehicle and the suspect reportedly reached inside the car. The girl then drove away. No injuries were reported from the incident.

Sgt. Jason Adams, with the Goldsboro Police Department's Community Police Services Division, advises motorists who are concerned about safety during a stop should call 911 and provide their location and a description of their vehicle.

Motorists without a cell phone should drive to an area that is well lit, Adams said.

Another precaution is to turn on hazard lights to alert a police officer that they are not planning to flee the area.

"The public's safety is our priority," Adams said.

Anyone with information regarding the crime or any other crime in Wayne County is asked to call or text Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255 or submit a tip at p3tips.com.
