The Wayne County Board of Education recognized Goldsboro High junior Xzavior Bowden for recently participating in the National Combine at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Bowden joined 600 of the nation's top high school football underclassmen as part of the three-day event.

Held annually in association with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the National Combine is the first opportunity for the nation's top underclassmen to compete against one another among high school and college footballs' top scouting organizations and analysts. Through hours of demanding training drills and exercises, participating athletes demonstrate speed, strength, quickness, and of course their overall football skills.

Through the National Combine, participants also work to set themselves apart in order to catch the eye of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, who determines the team rosters for the following year.

It is worth noting that Bowden showcased his skills with a 4.73 second 40-yard dash and a 4.3 second shuttle drill.

In addition to the training drills and exercises, participants also took part in educational seminars touching on the recruiting process, and how to improve themselves on the field. The National Combine participants concluded their experience with tickets to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game.
