Winter weather advisory begins tonight as 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected to fall

Full SizeA winter weather advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. today until 7 p.m. Wednesday in advance of a storm that could drop between 1 and 2 inches of snow on the area.
Snow is likely mainly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday when there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation with new snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches possible. The daytime high temperature will be near 34 degrees.
There is a 30 percent chance of snow before 7 p.m. Wednesday with lows overnight of around 17 degrees and wind chill values as low as 10. Little or no new snow accumulations are expected.
Previous forecasts had predicted accumulations of less than an inch for Wayne County.
State Department of Transportation crews spent part of Monday applying a brine solution to Wayne County's four-lane roads. They will continue those efforts today.
According to the National Weather Service, the snow is expected to end from the west Wednesday afternoon. Plan on slippery snow and ice covered road conditions. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected across the central part of the state.
The higher totals are likely to be from the Triangle area to Roanoke Rapids where 2 to 3 inches are expected, according to the National Weather Service. The lowest totals of an inch or less are likely along the southern border, near the S.C. state line where the snow should begin as a period of rain early Wednesday.
A strong upper level trough will approach from the west tonight. It, long with a strong arctic cold front, will push through the region Wednesday.
The combination will bring accumulating snow and very cold temperatures to central North Carolina.
Today should be sunny with a high near 50 degrees falling to near 34 overnight.
Thursday will be sunny with a high near 40 degrees
Temperatures will moderate reaching near 49 on Friday, near 56 Saturday and near 62 Sunday.
