A weekend party resulted in an injury when someone started shooting in the middle of it.

Wayne County Sheriff's deputies responded to the shooting at about 1:14 a.m. Sunday at 1451 Durham Lake Road.

A press release said two people had gone to a party at that location -- which is not someone's home -- and someone started shooting during the party.

It is not clear what led to the shooting.

The two people fled the building and got into their 2006 Honda.

Their car was hit by a bullet, and 34-year-old Shaqunnia Rochel Jones, of Greenville, was hit in the shoulder area by what authorities believe to be a bullet fragment.

The second person in the car, identified in the release as 27-year-old Katrina Monique Jones, of Goldsboro, was not injured.

The two victims told officers they say two people with guns, but could not provide any further description or definitively say if those were the people who shot their car.

They then drove to Wayne UNC Health Care so Jones could get treatment.

The incident remains under investigation, and no further information was available by press time.
