Overturned turkey truck shuts down N.C. 55 near Mount Olive

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has shut down N.C. Highway 55, east of Mount Olive, near the intersection of Church Street.

A turkey truck has overturned, spilling its contents.

Trooper David Felton said that the driver, Larry Beddingfield, of Larry Beddingfield and Son Trucking, was hauling the load ---- around 700 turkeys ---- from Charlotte to Butterball in Mount Olive when his 18-wheeler overturned in a curve.

Beddingfield was traveling eastbound when he approached a curve at a faster speed than was safe, Felton said.

Beddingfield is being charged with exceeding a safe speed. He refused treatment for any possible injuries at the scene.

A turkey truck has overturned, spilling its cargo. Workers are busy cleaning up and no injuries have been reported.
