The Boys and Girls Club annual fundraiser is fast approaching, celebrating its 39th year serving up hotcakes and sausage plates at the Royall Avenue location.

Pancake Day will be Saturday, with options to eat in or request takeout plates.

Serving starts at 7 a.m. and runs until 11 a.m. for those who wish to eat on site. Takeout times run from 7 until 11:30 a.m.

"We are excited about sharing our pancakes, sausage and beverages, cooked and served by board members and community volunteers," said Mary Ann Dudley, executive director. "This fundraiser directly impacts our kids of Wayne County.

"Also, this is our opportunity to show each member of the community the mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Wayne County and what it means to our children."

Dudley invited the public to come out to the Goldsboro club and walk the halls to experience the place where hundreds of children take advantage of the variety of programs.

She takes pride in the local club, founded in 1947. The non-profit depends on donations and volunteers to accomplish its mission, she said.

It currently serves more than 900 youth at its three area locations -- Goldsboro, Fremont and Mount Olive.

"The Boys and Girls Clubs are a place for hundreds of children to come every day and learn how to succeed in life in a positive atmosphere," she said.

Tickets are again $6 for the pancake breakfast, if purchased by Dec. 1, or $7 on the day of the event.

Volunteers are also needed, and donations are accepted to support the club's programs.
