Goldsboro police said Wednesday the three suspects arrested and charged so far in connection to a recent homicide knew the victim who was shot and killed during a failed robbery attempt.

"They knew or knew of him," said Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of the Goldsboro Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau.

Carmon would not say to what extent the suspects knew the victim.

Robert Baymon, 60, of 516 Eason St., was shot twice in the abdomen when he let two people into his house at about 3 a.m. Oct. 11.

Police said the people he let inside tried to rob him, and Baymon was shot when he defended himself.

Baymon later died on Oct. 18 when he succumbed to his wounds at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Two men arrested since Baymon's death are charged with murder.

Kendall Shane Price, 23, of Seven Springs, was taken into custody on Oct. 25 without incident, according to information shared by police.

Two days later, Anthony Rhodes Barnes, 22, was also arrested and charged with an open count of murder.

Both Price and Barnes are being held without bond.

Police have said after the arrests the investigation was still open, and Tuesday, Dearron Strickland, 24, of 306 Herman St., was also arrested.

Strickland, already in custody on a probation violation, saw his secured bond of $50,000 doubled with the added charges stemming from the Baymon case. He is due in Wayne County District Court today for a first appearance.

Strickland was arrested on Friday for allegedly violating his probation, but Carmon did not know how he had done so.

Carmon also declined to go into specifics about Strickland's alleged involvement in the crime, and would not comment on how he was connected to the incident.

"As an accessory after the fact, he was either there or had significant knowledge of this and was connected by his actions," Carmon said.

Carmon said police are eyeing other suspects, and the case remains under investigation. He did not say how many people are being looked at by police.

"We're still looking at other people," Carmon said.
