Then new business is located at 119 N. Center St. and has been open since Oct. 1. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Co-owners are Shavon Brown and Alexis Streets.
All items in the bakery will be homemade.
There will be cupcakes, 98 flavors now, but more are coming. Some of the more popular ones are banana pudding, red velvet, strawberry crunch, cookies and cream, pumpkin and sweet potato.
There will also be parfaits, chocolate-covered strawberries, gourmet oreos, candied applies, chocolate-covered apples and special mega milkshakes.
"We take milkshakes to a whole nother level," Ms. Brown said. "It may be topped with a cupcake, sprinkles or other things."
At Basket Treats, you'll also find cake in a jar, cheesecakes, cake pops and rock candy that's made from scratch.
There will even be wine ice cream.
While you're there, try some of the bakery's flavored coffees and teas.
The menu will change with the seasons.
There will be special items offered for the different holidays.
"Our focus is on delivering great taste, but presentation is everything, too," Ms. Brown said. "I pray over every batch of cupcakes I make. For me, I look at treats and desserts as comfort food. You never know what somebody has gone through during the day. They can stop in here and get a treat that's a sweet spot to their day, then we've done our job."
And ambiance is there, too.
"Our style is shabby chic because us North Carolinians like to keep things nice and comfortable," Ms. Brown said. "People can come in, be comfortable and relaxed and have some great treats. People can also plug their laptops into wifi.
"We brought in a lot of wood elements in earth tones and painted the walls pink."
There will be a special area of the bakery for small children to sit at their own little table and play.
Basket Treats will do various community events, like bringing in youths to teach them how to make treats, having poetry nights and book signings.
There will be discounts for seniors and military, as well as a public service day where anyone in a public service field can get a discount that day.
"Basket Treats is definitely an experience," Ms. Brown said. "It's not your typical bakery. The atmosphere is not your typical bakery atmosphere."
