Owner Tom Wang and assistant manager Deidre Husband are shown in front of the Jade Restaurant, a new business in Goldsboro.\n
The Jade Restaurant offers a variety of cuisines, including Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese.
And the new business uses healthy ingredients to make the dishes even better.
"We don't prepare ingredients in advance to cook meals with," said assistant manager Deidre Husband. "We prepare food as it's ordered. It's definitely fresher that way.
"And it really affects the taste and quality of the food."
Since the food is prepared as ordered, it takes a little longer to prepare a meal. So owners Tom and Donna Wang suggest you call in your order so it will be ready when you want it, especially on the weekend.
The restaurant has eat-in or take-out, but not delivery.
"Our hibachi menu is very popular," Ms. Husband said. "We have ribeye steak with zucchini, mushrooms, carrots and broccoli. It comes with egg fried rice and is $8. Our jumbo shrimp hibachi comes with the same vegetables and rice for $8. Or you can do the hibachi chicken with the same vegetables and rice for $6."
And with winter not too far away, the Jade Restaurant can warm you up with pho soups, which are soup based noodles.
Appetizers include egg rolls, veggie spring rolls, edamame, kimchi, sugar donuts, steamed or fried dumplings and agedashi tofu.
Soups and salads include wonton, egg drop, hot and sour, miso, seaweed salad, crabmeat salad and chef special salad bowl.
You'll also find fried chicken wings, basil leaf chicken, veggie egg foo young, moo goo gai pian, bean curd homestyle, Mongolian and Hunan chicken, kung pao beef or shrimp, pepper steak with onions and beef and shrimp with garlic sauce.
Then there's chicken chow mein, chicken and veggie pad thai, seafood pho, kalbi, beef kimchi fried rice, coconut shrimp, tempura shrimp, seafood pineapple fried rice, Hawaiian roast pork, sushi, fruit cups, slushies and smoothies.
"We can also do hot tea," Ms. Husband said.
And if someone comes in asking for a dish that's not on the menu, no problem.
"We can make it for them," Tom said. "Just tell me whatever you want."
The Jade Restaurant is located at 173 N.C. 111 South. It's open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The phone number is 919-288-1160.
