Troopers measure and document the scene of a fatal motorcycle wreck early Monday evening at the intersection of Dollardtown and Ditchbank Roads.

UPDATE ---- A motorcyclist died Monday evening when he hit the back of an SUV at the intersection of Dollardtown Road and Ditchbank Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The dead man's identity is not yet being released, as his family has not been notified.

Sgt. Michael Dorsey said an SUV was stopped at the intersection of Dollardtown Road and Ditchbank Road, waiting to turn left, when the motorcyclist hit the back of the vehicle.

"There is evidence to believe he was passing cars at the time of the crash," Dorsey said.

Dorsey said law enforcement believes the motorcyclist was passing traffic in a no passing zone prior to the wreck, which is what led to him colliding with the back of the SUV.

The make and model of the SUV law enforcement says the motorcyclist hit was not immediately available.

Dorsey said the wreck was called out as a motor vehicle collision at 5:13 p.m.

Once firefighters and EMS personnel arrived on scene, they pronounced the motorcyclist dead, Dorsey said.

While troopers processed the wreck scene, traffic coming down Ditchbank Road was rerouted away from the location of the fatal collision at the intersection with Dollardtown Road.

Motorists on Dollardtown Road were allowed to pass by the scene while firefighters directed traffic.

In addition to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, El-Roy Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

Initial report ---- The North Carolina Highway Patrol is clearing a fatal wreck involving a motorcycle and an SUV at the intersection of Dollardtown Road and Ditchbank Road.

Troopers have so far confirmed that the motorcycle driver was killed after striking the back of the SUV as it was waiting to turn.

This is a developing story. Additional details will be provided as more information becomes available.
