The Serena Inn is now barred from renting out any more rooms to people after authorities served a temporary restraining order on the business today at 11 a.m.

People currently renting rooms at the motel will be allowed to stay, but it is not allowed to rent out any additional rooms until the matter is settled in court.

Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of the Goldsboro Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau, said no specific action led to the temporary restraining order.

Rather, Carmon said, it is because police are continually being called to the location and the quality of life at the motel has shown no improvement after the business was forced to temporarily close in 2016 to bring the property up to code.

"The quality of life has not improved, and we're still getting those types of calls that we don't like to get out there, so we're taking the next step," Carmon said.

The civil action hearing is set for Sept. 25.

When the motel will be able to begin renting out rooms again is contingent on what happens at the court hearing.
