Pikeville police charge two people after finding 245 prescription pills, firearm during traffic stop

Full SizeTwo people are in custody on a litany of drug and firearm charges after Pikeville police found narcotics in their car during a traffic stop, according to a police report.
On Aug. 28, officers with the Pikeville Police Department stopped Brian Allen Gardner, 38, of 5618 U.S. 117, Wilson, and Tammy Boykin Denton, 48, of 377 Great Neck Landing Road, Hubert, in the area of Main Street and Parks Drive. During the stop, the officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according to the report, and conducted a search of the vehicle.
During the search, officers found approximately three grams of methamphetamine, 12 grams of marijuana and a total of 245 prescription pills of various controlled substances, according to the report. Officers also found that both the driver, Gardner, and the passenger Denton were armed.
Gardner was in possessio of a Smith & Wesson .38 special, and Denton had a knife, according to the release.
Both suspects were arrested and brought to the Wayne County magistrate's office. After being processed into the Wayne County Jail, jail staff found more methamphetamine on Denton.
Gardner was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of MDPV, possession with intent to sell/distribute schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell/distribute schedule IV controlled substance, possession with intent to sell/distribute schedule IV controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Denton was charged with possession of marijuana up to 1/2 ounce, sell/deliver schedule IV controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance on a jail premises. Both received $20,000 secured bonds.
