Grand jury indicts alleged meth manufacturers

A pair arrested for running a meth lab on Old Smithfield Road in May 2016 was indicted by a Wayne County Grand jury this week.

Andrew Douglas Best, 57, of 1775 Old Smithfield Road, was indicted for manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking in methamphetamine by manufacturing, trafficking in methamphetamine by possession, two counts felony possession of methamphetamine, two counts keeping and maintaining a dwelling for the use of controlled substances, six counts possession or distribution of immediate precursor chemical and three counts of being a habitual felon.

Sabrina Blizzard Taylor, 46, also of 1775 Old Smithfield Road, was indicted for manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking in methamphetamine by manufacturing, trafficking in methamphetamine by possession, felony possession of methamphetamine, six counts possession or distribution of immediate precursor chemical.

The operation was hidden in the roof of the stick-built, metal covered building that doubled as Best and Taylor's residence.

When Wayne County sheriff's deputies raided the lab in the early morning hours of May 14, 2016, they recovered a copy of "Secrets of Methamphetamine Manufacture, Fourth Edition: Including Recipes for MDA, Ecstasy and Psychedelic Amphetamines" by Uncle Fester.

They also recovered a small bag of methamphetamine, along with precursors such as butane, Drano, battery acid and blister packs of medicine containing pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.

The Grand Jury also indicted 27 other people on theft, drug and gun charges.
