Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro-Wayne and future Habitat homeowners will work alongside Lowe's volunteers and mostly-female construction crews for Habitat for Humanity's 10th annual National Women Build Week, May 6-14.
More than 17,000 women, including Lowe's Heroes volunteers, are expected to volunteer at construction sites across the country as part of Habitat's 2017 National Women Build Week.
"Habitat Goldsboro-Wayne is excited to once again be taking part in this national event," said Executive Director Matthew Whittle. "Women Build is always one of our most popular events every year. We know when we get these groups on the job site that we are going to get a lot done and we are looking forward to another successful weekend of building. What better way to honor Mother's Day than to have so many ladies out building with us, especially when you consider that of our current homeowners, nearly 70 percent entered the program as single mothers."
On the job site at 107 Patsy Lane, Goldsboro, volunteers will work to finish putting in the floor system, stand up walls and possibly even begin to put up the roof.
This home is being built with the Alriyashi family: mother Azlan, father Ammar and three children.
The dates for Habitat Goldsboro-Wayne's Women Build will be Thursday, May 11 through Saturday, May 13, with two shifts each day, 8-11:30 a.m. and noon-3:30 p.m. Registration is $100 and includes a t-shirt, lunch, a thank you bag, door prizes, a bit of hard work and a lot of fun. Registration is online at www.habitatgoldsboro.org/women-build-2017.
Lowe's donated a $5,000 store gift card to Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro-Wayne.
