Eastern Wayne Elementary students won the Region 2 Elementary Battle of the Books competition. The team qualified for the Region 2 Competition after winning the WCPS Elementary Battle of the Books Competition earlier this month.

The Elementary School Battle of the Books is a quiz bowl style competition that encourages reading. Contestants, who are in grades 4-5, must read 18 books chosen by a statewide committee, and the competition tests students' comprehension of the books. The Eastern Wayne Elementary Battle of the Books team competed against nine other elementary school teams in Region 2 that also won their district-level competitions.

The Eastern Wayne Elementary Battle of the Books Team consists of Jordan Barrett, Adrian Bartlow, Ryan Holt, Leia Jewell, Sydney Robinson, and Steven Zhang. The team was coached by Christie Davis and Sarah Robinson.

"Ms. Davis and her students are to be commended for their hard work, and for representing Wayne County Public Schools so well," said Dr. David Lewis, assistant superintendent for accountability/IT Services.

The Battle of the Books program is coordinated by the Media Center program at participating schools. The regional competition is the highest level of competition in the Elementary Battle of the Books program.
