The Wayne County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop Friday which led to a man's arrest for possession of cocaine and child abuse.

According to a press release, Shelvon Tracy Rich, 43, of 112 Marlette Drive, was driving on N.C. 111 South near Mount Airy Road around 9:30 p.m. when the sheriff's office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team stopped Rich's vehicle.

The ACE team discovered two open containers, cocaine and Rich's 1-year-old child in the 2009 black Honda Accord, the release said.

Rich is charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor child abuse.

He was placed under a $3,000 unsecured bond.

Maj. Tom Effler said officers possibly saw the open containers in the car first which led to Rich's arrest. Effler could not confirm if alcohol was in the containers.
