A Wayne County sheriff's deputy arrested a man for methamphetamine possession after the man flagged him down with a flashlight Saturday night, mistaking the deputy for the person he was trying to sell methamphetamine to, according to a press release.

Adam Wade Williams, 31, of 122 Windy Acres Lane, flagged down a deputy with a flashlight near N.C. 111 South and Spring Bank Road, the release said.

The deputy drove down Ditch Bank Road and saw Williams flagging him down with the flashlight, the release said, which prompted the deputy to get out of his marked patrol car and talk to Williams.

According to the release, Williams became "extremely nervous" while interacting with the deputy, causing the deputy to investigate further.

Williams then admitted to the deputy that he had methamphetamine on him and he mistakenly flagged down the deputy instead of the person he was trying to sell it to, the release said.

According to the release, Williams had 40 grams of methamphetamine on him.

Williams is charged with first-level trafficking in methamphetamine.

He was given a $100,000 secured bond on the charges.
