Police are investigating the first homicide of 2017 after responding to the 400 block of South Hollowell Street in reference to shots fired and finding 26-year-old Tyreek Moninick Moody suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Moody was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are investigating the first homicide of 2017 after responding to shots being fired around 1:30 a.m. today and finding a 26-year-old shot to death in the 400 block of South Hollowell Street.

Tyreek  Moody, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel, according to a press release.

Police arrived to the scene after being alerted to shots fired in the area by ShotSpotter early this morning and found Moody suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Moody's mother, Stephanie Moody, remained on the scene today around 6:20 a.m.

"They're telling me they don't know nothing," Ms. Moody said.

Moody said her daughter, Tyneecia Oates, called her around 3:15 a.m. and told her the news.

Oates also remained on the scene this morning with her mother.

"Everybody's saying nobody knows nothing, they just heard gunshots," Ms. Moody said.

Goldsboro Police Chief Mike West said authorities believe a 9 millimeter could have been used in the shooting.

West said authorities have not yet been able to confirm where Moody was before he was killed or the events that led up to the killing.

West said police do not have any theories at this time as to why Moody was killed, adding that investigators conducted a neighborhood canvass and spoke to family on the scene.
