Patience A. Hill of Goldsboro was selected to receive a Duke Energy Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $3,500 for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Miss Hill, a senior at Meredith College, is majoring in mathematics.
Duke Energy scholarships are awarded to students studying math or science. The Duke Energy Foundation contributed total of $80,500 in scholarship aid which was awarded to 23 students studying at private colleges and universities throughout North Carolina.
The funds were distributed by The Independent College Fund of North Carolina, a division of North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities. Over the past 57 years, The Duke Foundation has given more than $3.9 million to the fund.
"Duke Energy's support of independent higher education over the past 57 years has been extraordinary," said NCICU President Hope Williams. "Their contributions help prepare students who are seeking STEM jobs in fields that are essential to North Carolina's competitiveness in the global marketplace."
