The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Tuesday night armed robbery of the Dollar General at Genoa Crossing Drive off of U.S. 117.

According to an incident report, a black man wearing all black walked from around the corner of the building and forced an employee back inside the store at gunpoint as the person tried to close the store for the night.

Once inside, the man went behind the counter in the store and stole cash and cigarettes, the report said.

The man got away with $1,764.46 in cash and $433.60 worth of Newport cigarettes.

"No one was hurt," said Maj. Tom Effler with the sheriff's office.

Investigators found shoe prints where the man was reportedly standing prior to robbing the store and took photos of the impressions. A receipt was also recovered from where the man was standing prior to walking up on the employee who was closing the store and forcing them inside, the report said.

The incident was captured on video and the footage was turned over to investigators, the report said.

According to the report, the man fled the area heading south.

"We don't know how he fled," Effler said.
