A wreck involving a school bus at Genoa Road and Robin Lake Drive today around 7:10 a.m. sent three people to the hospital, but no students on the bus were injured.

North Carolina State Highway Patrolman L.J. Bunn said the school bus driver, Veronica Bell, 60, of Goldsboro, turned in front of a Honda driven by 17-year-old Anthony Zimmerman of Dudley and caused Zimmerman to crash into the rear right panel of the bus.

Bell and Zimmerman were both taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment. Zimmerman's passenger, who was not identified as of press time, was also taken to the hospital.

Bunn said Bell was making a left turn into Robin Lake Estates when the crash happened, and dragged Zimmerman's car under the back of the bus after the impact into the entrance of the subdivision.

Bunn said no charges have been filed in the wreck at this time, as there were three witnesses to the wreck and more details are waiting to be confirmed.

Wayne County Public Schools Transportation Director Robert Lee said on the scene that eight Southern Wayne High School students were on the bus at the time of the wreck. None of them were injured.

A second bus arrived on the scene, picked the students up and took them to school, Lee said.

Dudley Fire Department, Arrington Volunteer Fire Department, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Wayne County EMS and Wayne NET also responded to the scene.

The road was blocked to through traffic for around two hours.
