The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating two break-ins that took place over the holidays at Charles B. Aycock High School and Johnston Ambulance Service.

According to incident reports, 16 Dell desktop computers valued at a combined $12,800 were stolen from the high school and more than $17,000 worth of property was taken from 28 different vehicles at the ambulance service on U.S. 70 West.

Whoever stole the computers only took the CPU to the machines and not the monitors or other accessories, an incident report said.

Investigators found tire tracks outside the door where the break-in occurred at the high school Monday, which employees said should not have been there.

The person who stole the computers also painted the security camera positioned directly outside of the classroom the computers were stolen from. Another eight cameras stationed from the northern most entrance of the school to where investigators discovered tire tracks outside the door to the classroom were also painted over, the report said.

According to the incident report, the break-in and theft happened some time between Dec. 20 and Dec. 26.

In a separate incident, the perpatrators who broke into the company vehicles at JAS used a slim jim, an incident report said. The surveillance cameras on the property did not capture the incident.

Investigators recovered the slim jim at the scene. The break-ins took place some time between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
