Foundation awards grants

KENANSVILLE -- The board of advisers of the Duplin County Community Foundation and Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement have announced more than $65,000 in local grant awards.
This year's Duplin County Community Foundation nonprofit recipients include:
• $570 to Albritton Recreation Park.
• $1,000 to Duplin Christian Outreach Ministries for Feed Our Hungry. Children/Backpack Ministry- Summer Program.
• $1,000 to Duplin County Sheriff's Office DARE Program.
• $1,000 to Pet Friends of Duplin County for free/low cost rabies clinics.
• $500 to Duplin County Cooperative Extension for 4-H Summer Camp.
• $900 to Mediation Center of Eastern Carolina-Duplin for Duplin Youth Career Skills.
• $1,000 to Diversity Nurtures Achievement Community Youth Center for Summer Enrichment Program.
• $700 to The Outlaw Foundation.
This year's Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement nonprofit recipients include:
• $5,000 to James Sprunt Community College -- Upward Bound for Spartan Hour.
• $2,500 to town of Faison/Faison Recreation and Wellness Center for Improve Your Health with Sports.
• $6,500 to Duplin Christian Outreach Ministries for Backpack Ministry.
• $5,000 to Kenansville Eastern Missionary Baptist Association (KEMBA) for Youth Day series.
• $5,000 to JSCC/Educational Talent Search for James Sprunt Community College -- Upward Bound.
• $1,000 to Wallace Presbyterian Church for Summer Reading 2016.
• $5,000 to Rones Chapel Area Community Center for Tutor to the Top.
• $4,150 to Beulaville Elementary GOTR/
STRIDE.
• $2,500 to Girl Scouts -- North Carolina Coastal Pines for Duplin County Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
• $4,400 to Mediation Center of Eastern Carolina-Duplin for Duplin County Teen Court.
• $5,000 to Diversity Nurtures Achievement Community Youth Center for DNA Afterschool Enrichment Program.
• $3,650 to Cultivating Stalk and STEM for Advancing Inquisitive Minds, Strong Bodies, and Global Communities.
• $2,404 to Wallace Parks and Recreation for AED.
• $5,000 to East Duplin Youth Soccer, Inc for EDSC Organization Health Development for Children.
• $1,500 to Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary School for "The A Team" 2017
Foundation President Bob Kornegay thanked the community for its support of the Duplin County Community Foundation and Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement.
"These grants are important to our community and our quality of life," he said. "Critical programs would not be possible without the generosity of many individuals and organizations that have supported the Duplin County Community Foundation and Duplin Foundation for Youth Advancement."
The Duplin County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation.
In addition to Kornegay, board members include: Debra Morrisey (vice-president), Randy Albertson (treasurer), Glenn Brewer, Francisco Diaz, Ed Emory, Jayme Jones, Nancy Jordan, Brittainy Kildow, Todd Minchew and Claudia Thompson.
Tax-deductible contributions can be made to the Community Grantmaking Fund, which is administered by the NCCF.
Contributions should be made payable to the Duplin County Community Foundation and mailed to the North Carolina Community Foundation, 3737 Glenwood Ave., Suite 460, Raleigh, N.C. 27612.
