A Goldsboro woman is dead and one man is in critical condition after a wreck that took place Christmas evening at Friendly Drive and Braswell Road in Rosewood.
North Carolina Highway Patrolman Nolan Sanders said 65-year-old Charles Aaron Mitchell ran a stop sign at the intersection, which resulted in his Buick being t-boned on the passenger side by a Ford F-250 driven by 21-year-old Paul Ray Anthony of Mount Olive.
Mitchell's passenger, 60-year-old Mary Wagner, of Goldsboro, died in the wreck.
Sanders said Mitchell was flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville and remains in critical condition.
"Speed and alcohol were not a factor in the wreck," Sanders said.
Sanders said Mitchell was driving westbound on Braswell Road and Anthony was driving southbound on Friendly Drive at the time of the collision at around 4:08 p.m. Sunday.
No charges or citations had been filed against any of the parties involved in the wreck as of press time, Sanders said.
Sanders said both drivers were going a reasonable speed at the time of the wreck, and the road was blocked off for around two hours while authorities worked to clear the scene.
