Traffic in one of the southbound lanes of Interstate-795 at mile marker 22 was blocked off Monday around noon after the driver of a Dodge truck overcorrected and rolled the truck.

A female driver suffered minor injuries after her pickup truck flipped multiple times traveling south on I-795 Monday afternoon, according to witnesses and the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Interstate 795 South was reduced to a single lane as crews worked to clear debris from the crash, as well as tow the red 2003 Dodge truck which sat on it's side facing north along the guard rail.

E.J. Spencer, 19, was in the truck during the crash. He said that the driver, 17-year-old Kaylin Sawyer, lost control of the vehicle after overcorrecting when the truck began to run off the left side of the road.

"She started to go off the road a bit, and when she turned it back her steering wheel was a little loose, and it went to far over," he said.

Spencer said that Sawyer was taken to the hospital with pain in her neck and legs. He said he felt okay at the moment, but that could have been because his adrenaline was still running.

Skid marks beginning in the left lane led to a sizable dent in the right-side guard rail. From there, a trail of debris and red paint marked the path of the truck as it turned, tumbled and eventually came to rest dozens of feet from where it initially hit the rail.

Highway Patrol officer Leroy Bunn estimated that the vehicle was traveling between 55 and 60 miles per hour when it hit the rail. He said it is likely the truck flipped at least two times if not more as it skidded along the right lane.
