Dock Bryant celebrates 101st birthday

Dock Bryant was born Aug. 11, 1915, to the late Henry and Ella Farrow Bryant in Kenansville.
He is the fourth child born of seven children and the only one still living. Dock was reared and raised on the Pickett Farm in Duplin County until the year 1944 when he relocated to Snow Hill.
In 1947, he married the late Rose Minnie Speight of Greene County.
They remained married for 60 years until her death in 2007.
The had nine children, 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Bryant was a share farmer in Greene County from 1947 until 1966. Then he relocated to Wayne County and worked for the city of Goldsboro and Dewey Brothers until he retired at the age of 62. After retiring, he became a foster grandparent for the O'Berry Center in Goldsboro for 16 years. Bryant continued working by detailing and moving lawns for James Dawson and John and Helen Thompson until his 92nd birthday.
His part-time enjoyments were fox hunting, fishing and watching wrestling, boxing, baseball and cowboy pictures on television. He never met a stranger and always enjoyed talking to people about the goodness of the of Jesus Christ. Bryant's memory is great as of today. He is the senior deacon at St. John Kingdom Ministries, Snow Hill. He has served in just about every capacity of the church usher, choir member, Sunday school teacher and member of the board of trustees.
