With Hurricane Matthew advancing up the east coast of Florida, Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair officials have opted to shut down the fair two days ahead of schedule.
The fair, regularly scheduled for a 10-day run, will not open Friday or Saturday.
Fair manager Eddie Pitzer said the move comes out of a concern for public safety.
"We have been monitoring the weather through the National Weather Service and based on the weather prediction with the possibility off heavier rains coming in Friday evening through Saturday morning, we felt like the safest thing to do was just go ahead and close the fair," Pitzer said.
