With Hurricane Matthew advancing up the coast of Florida,  Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair officials have opted to shut down two days ahead of schedule.

The fair, regularly scheduled to run 10 days, will not open Friday or Saturday.

Fair manager Eddie Pitzer said the move comes out of concern for public safety.

"We have been monitoring the weather through the National Weather Service and, based  on the weather prediction witht he possibility of heavier rains coming in Friday morning through Saturday evening, we felt like the safest thing to do was just go ahead and close the fair,"Pitzer said.
