Charles Snipes dies at age 81

Charles Snipes Jr., who operated a Ford dealership in Goldsboro for more than 40 years, died Tuesday.
He was 81.
Snipes ran Snipes Ford for decades, starting in 1961 when he bought the business.
A native of Wilmington, Snipes is survived by his wife, Lu Jones Snipes of the home, his son, Chuck, and wife, Jana, of Goldsboro, daughter Donna Snipes Schoettmer of Dallas, Texas, and three grandsons.
Snipes graduated from Wake Forest University in 1957 and the Wake Forest School of Law in 1960.
He was joined by his son in the operation of his business.
Snipes served on the boards of the Carolina Ford Dealers Advertising Fund, the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association, the Wake Forest Deacon Club, Wayne Country Day School and as chairman of the capital campaign at the school.
He also served as president of the Goldsboro Area Chamber of Commerce, the Goldsboro Industrial Committee of 100, and as president of the board of the Walnut Creek Country Club.
The family will receive friends today from 5 until 7 pm at the home 214 Ridgewood Drive. A memorial service will be held at St Stephen's Episcopal Church in Goldsboro at 11 a.m. on Friday.
