Calypso Fire Chief Brandon Cashwell, left, his son, Gabriel, and his father, Assistant Chief Carlton Cashwell, show some of the items to auctioned off at the department's Saturday fundraiser.
CALYPSO -- The Calypso Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual auction Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.
The event raises money to fund the volunteer fire department's general fund, as there is no fire district tax for the area.
The day will feature children's activities, which include fire truck rides.
The auction will begin at 6 p.m. The items up for auction are being donated by local residents.
There will be 200 items up for bid, including gift certificates, toys, wreaths, garden supplies, jewelry, wood products, sweets and George Adrian Dail's cheese straws.
Raffle tickets are being sold by Calypso volunteer firefighters with the top prize being a Wilmington Gas Grill or $1,000.
The raffle drawing will begin at 8:30 p.m. on the day of the event.
The annual auction has pulled a lot of support from the community in the past years.
