Wayne County grand jury indicts 38

A Goldsboro man has been indicted on an attempted first degree murder charge Tuesday by the Wayne County grand jury.
Jonathan Douglas Seaman, 33, 421 Charlie Braswell Road, allegedly attacked and strangled a woman at her home on Jan. 28, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Seaman was charged with felony assault by strangulation, second-degree kidnapping, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, common law robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle at the time of the incident.
According to the sheriff's office, Seaman knocked on the woman's door and let himself in her home. He assaulted the woman for hours with his fists and strangled the woman with a lamp cord, Maj. Tom Effler said.
After attacking the woman, Seaman stole the woman's 2011 Toyota and drove the vehicle to Charlie Braswell Road where he was arrested by deputies.
The woman remained at her home, unable to use her phone or leave because Seaman denied her access to both. The report said she eventually was able to use her phone and she called a neighbor for help. The neighbor called 911 and the woman was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Effler said the woman had injuries to her eyes, nose, throat, arms and knees.
Seaman was arrested on Thursday for failure to appear in court and is in jail on a $2,350,000 bond, Effler said. His first appearance in court was scheduled for Friday.
