The staff at Heroes Sports Oyster Bar and Grill is happy to serve the public at the business' new location on Ash Street

Heroes Sports Oyster Bar and Grill is now open on Ash Street in the former Pizza Inn building.

The restaurant, previously located near Lowe's Home Improvement store on North Berkeley Boulevard, has moved to 3009 E. Ash St. in a building that offers nearly double the space.

"This has been an eight-month project," said co-owner Earl Beasley. "I needed more space. I can get more people in here. It's almost twice as big."

The restaurant has a seating capacity for nearly 200 people, a bar, game room and 24 flat-screen televisions mounted around the dining area. A 110-inch projector screen will also be added to a back wall inside the dining area and allow for greater broadcasting options for popular sporting events, including NFL games, Beasley said.

Additions to the menu are planned, future live entertainment is in the works, and a grand opening is expected in about a month.

"We serve a lot of food -- steaks, crab legs, oysters, shrimp, seafood," Beasley said. "We're going to add more items to the menu, after a while, (including) more seafood items and more varieties of steak."

Heroes has a full menu, with appetizers, including such favorites as fried pickles, fried green beans, frog legs and alligator bites. Chicken wings, with 13 sauce choices, salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers and a children's menu are also available. Dinner selections include seafood, steak and chicken.

"Everything we cook is fresh," he said. "This, right here, is a family friendly atmosphere. We have a kid's menu and the games for the kids. It's a restaurant with a sports bar atmosphere."

Heroes has an outdoor covered patio, which can accommodate about 15 customers, and the restaurant offers specials, trivia nights and other events. Specials are offered each week, including $5 burgers on Monday, $1 tacos on Tuesday and 75-cent wings on Wednesday. Heroes is open Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from noon to 2 a.m.

The new location has allowed the business to expand and grow, with business increasing by almost 70 percent.

"We're really excited to be here and very pleased with the support that we've had from the locals and the base," said co-owner Loretta Beasley. "The new location has helped us grow in many ways."

Heroes first opened in Goldsboro in 2008 near the corner of Berkeley Boulevard and Ash Street. By 2011, the restaurant moved further down Berkeley Boulevard in a shopping center alongside Lowe's Home Improvement store. The restaurant made the move and opened on East Ash St. in August. The Beasleys also operate a second Heroes location in Wilson.
