MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive police are investigating a Friday night shooting that injured two men, one of whom remains under care at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
The two men were shot just before 11 p.m. Friday night during a physical altercation at a residence on Franklin Street in Mount Olive, said Mount Olive Police Chief Tommy Brown.
"One of my officers was posted up at the local convenient store at the corner of Church Street and Pollock Street when an individual pulled up in a white Ford F-150 and said they had been shot," Brown said. "While rescue was on the way to that location, we got another call about an individual on Franklin Street that was shot as well."
Brown said officers investigated the two shootings and uncovered the two men were both at a home on Franklin Street when they got into a physical confrontation that escalated into shots being fired.
According to Brown, one of the victims, Phillip D. Pride, was shot in the leg. Pride was treated for his injury at Wayne Memorial Hospital and released.
The second victim, Demarlo Kornegay, was shot multiple times and is still being treated for his injuries at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, Brown said.
Brown said no arrests had been made in the shootings as of Saturday afternoon, but that the investigation was ongoing and arrests are possibly pending in the case.
Brown said the shootings are being investigated as being related.
