Two 20-year-old men were arrested Tuesday afternoon following a foot chase with police after allegedly robbing a man and shooting at him with a handgun.
Dajoun Jeffonte Hargis, 20, of 610 Bizzell Court, and Deandre Marquez Pope, also 20, of 1511 Juniper St., were both charged with felony attempted homicide and felony robbery with a dangerous weapon after reportedly robbing a man at 600 H.V. Brown Lane and then shooting at him with a handgun before fleeing on foot.
Police responded to a 911 call about the armed robbery and chased the two men down on foot before apprehending them at 107 N. Alabama Ave.
"One subject was on the railroad tracks and the other was in a shed at the rear of the property," said Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of the Goldsboro Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.
Carmon said the reported victim of the robbery, Michael Scott Knowles, 34, had "property for sale on the Internet and the suspects responded to that ad."
"When they met, that is when the robbery, or attempted robbery, took place," Carmon said. "In the midst of that is when the shots were fired."
According to a police report filed on the incident, Knowles was not injured in the robbery and the shots fired reportedly only struck his car.
The report says the two men stole Knowles' gray Samsung Galaxy, valued at $500, and caused approximately $900 in damages to his car. According to the report, the bullets left a half-inch in diameter hole in the driver's door of Knowles' car and a quarter-inch crack in the driver's side of the car's windshield. Hargis was given a $500,000 secured bond, and Pope was given a $750,000 secured bond. Both men were confined in the Wayne County Jail. Each man's first appearance in Wayne County Court is today.
