Wayne County Public Schools will hold parent meetings next week at two schools involved in the regrouping plan, recently passed by the Board of Education for the central attendance area.
The first session will take place at Carver Heights Elementary School on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Parents and guardians of students in grades three through five are invited.
The other event will be held at North Drive Elementary School on Thursday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. in the school's multipurpose room. This is for parents of students entering kindergarten through second grade.
The purpose of the meetings will be to provide parents with an update about the ongoing school regrouping efforts, as well as to hand out information on bell schedules, bus routes and expectations for the upcoming school year.
The school board approved the district administration's proposed school regrouping plan on June 17, for the Goldsboro High attendance feeder pattern, to take effect in the 2016-17 school year.
Over the summer break, the district has been working to restructure the schools in time for classes, which resume Aug. 29.
In addition to the reconfiguration of the aforementioned schools, Dillard Middle School will drop fifth grade and concentrate on grades six through eight.
School Street Elementary will undergo a name change, to School Street Early Learning Center, with its academic focus moving to school readiness for pre-K.
"Our school regrouping team looks forward to giving parents an update on all of the activity that has been taking place this summer in preparation for the first day of school," said Dr. Michael Dunsmore, schools superintendent. "There are many logistics involved in regrouping grades from multiple schools to individual campuses.
"We would encourage all of our parents from these schools to attend the meetings to hear how this process is going and to receive important transportation information for their child."
