Jesse Lee Peterson

Jesse Lee Peterson, a conservative activist, will visit Goldsboro July 22 to speak at Camp Liberty, an annual constitutional seminar held by Tea Party group Citizens for Constitutional Liberties.

Peterson is the president of Brotherhood Organization for a New Destiny (BOND), a religious nonprofit, which states its mission as "rebuilding the family by rebuilding the man."

Peterson, who is black, is known for his often controversial views on Civil Rights.

He is an outspoken critic of Jesse Jackson, who he has accused of stoking racial tensions for personal gain, and has suggested that the problems facing black people in America are the result of "moral bankruptcy" as opposed to institutional barriers or racism.

At Camp Liberty, Peterson said he will speak about being willing to fight against "Godless liberal people" for one's constitutional rights.

He said that events like Camp Liberty are very important during the election season.

"We have the worst government ever, just the worst we've ever had," he said. "We need to pick the right person."

Peterson said his goal is to "unite the races with truth instead of dividing them with lies."

He said that racial divisions are worse today than they have ever been, and that he intends to show white people who are afraid of being called racists that they should speak their minds.

He also intends to speak on the second amendment, which is a hot-button topic in the wake of the mass shooting in Orlando, Fla.

Camp Liberty will be held at Victory Free Will Baptist Church, located at 1806 Wayne Memorial Drive, from Thursday July 21 to Saturday July 23.

The seminar is designed to teach people about the U.S. Constitution and includes classes for people from kindergarten though adulthood.

Other speakers will include Sen. Louis Pate, Rep. John Bell and Dr. James Simpson, as well as "Free Market Warrior" Lawrence Spivek and many others.

Supper will be served at 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday nights, with Peterson's speech following the Friday meal.

Light breakfast will be available at 9 a.m. on July 23.
