A light voter turnout is expected for Tuesday's special primary, which for Wayne County voters has only one race.

In that nonpartisan race North Carolina Supreme Court Associate Justice Robert H. "Bob" Edmunds is facing challenges from Michael R. "Mike" Morgan, Daniel Robertson and Sabra Jean Faires.

Martin served as a district court judge in Wake County from 1994-2004. He has served as superior court judge in Wake County since 2005.

Robertson is an attorney who owns his own private practice.

Ms. Fries has worked in the state Department of Revenue and held various positions in the General Assembly between 1980 and 2011.

Voters will cast their ballot for one candidate, and the top two vote-getters will meet in the November general election.

Polls will be open countywide from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on primary day.

Only 645 voters took advantage of one-stop early voting that ended Saturday afternoon.

Vote totals for the primary will be unofficial until the canvass at the Wayne County Board of Elections office at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14.

Voters will be asked to present a valid photo identification when voting in person.

A sample ballot and more information about voter ID are available at the Wayne County Board of Elections website at www.waynevotes.com.

There are exceptions for voters who are unable to obtain acceptable photo identification, have a religious objection to being photographed, or are victims of a natural disaster.

Acceptable forms of photo identification include a N.C. driver's license or DMV-issued identification card (expired for up to four years), U.S. passport or passport card (unexpired), military ID card or Veterans Affairs ID card (unexpired, if there is an expiration date), and certain tribal enrollment cards.

Free photo identification for voting is available at any state DMV office.

Voters who complete a Reasonable Impediment Declaration that they were unable to obtain one of the acceptable forms of identification may provide alternative forms of identification that include their voter registration card or a current utility bill, paycheck, government check, bank statement, or other government document bearing the voter's name and current address.

Voters who use curbside voting may use one of the alternative forms of identification, too.
